In Copenhagen over 65% of commuters go to work by walking, bicycling or public transport - 1/3 use bicycles, 1/3 use public transportation and the remaining 1/3 use cars. Public policy prioritizes public transportation and bicycles over cars, which makes commuting by alternative means the most convenient and efficient choice. The result is quieter cities, lower emissions, reduced energy consumption, and a healthier population. |

Bus Rapid Transit moves people efficiently and inexpensively. Curitiba has perfected the Bus-stop system for the Bus Rapid Transit. 1. Dedicated Lanes allow buses to operate like a subway or lightrail, at a tenth of the cost. 2. Users pre-pay and ramp up before bus arrival, reducing stop time to the minimum and avoiding inconveniences for the mobility impaired. 3. Works with a shared ticket: once you are in the system you can go wherever. Bogota and Mexico City, among others have already followed. |
