This is a map of the central core of Copenhagen. The yellow path in the center is the Strøget, which is an ages old thoroughfare running through the city from east to west. Both ends terminate in large squares - Kongens Nytorv to the east on and Rådhuspladsen on the west. Strøget became Copenhagen's first pedestrian only street in 1962, and soon became a great success. Since then, a number of other streets in the central city have been converted into pedestrian streets. (photo by Steve McConnell, NBBJ)
