Join us on an extraordinary 12-day journey through Japan at one of the year's most beautiful times. Mid-May offers near-perfect conditions with pleasant temperatures, vibrant landscapes, and long daylight hours. The spring crowds have departed, yet the heat and humidity of summer have not yet arrived, creating an ideal season for exploring both cities and countryside.

Throughout the journey, we'll experience Japan through a carefully balanced blend of guided exploration and personal discovery, with daily walking in cities, villages, and along historic trails. Beginning in the dynamic metropolis of Tokyo, we'll gradually transition to the peaceful mountain villages of the Kiso Valley before immersing ourselves in the timeless temples and gardens of Kyoto. From there, we'll continue to the historic samurai city of Kanazawa, celebrated for its exceptional craftsmanship and culinary traditions, then journey to the art island of Naoshima, where contemporary architecture and world-class museums blend seamlessly with the landscapes of the Seto Inland Sea. Finally, we'll unwind in the renowned hot spring town of Arima Onsen, enjoying the restorative traditions of Japanese hospitality before returning home. Along the way, we'll wander historic streets and lively markets, visit tranquil gardens, museums, and artisan workshops, savor outstanding regional cuisine, stay in carefully selected accommodations, and enjoy ample time for personal exploration.

Rather than simply visiting Japan's most famous destinations, this journey traces the evolution of Japanese culture—from the vibrant energy of modern Tokyo to the preserved post towns of the Nakasendo, from Kyoto's imperial temples to Kanazawa's living craft traditions, from the groundbreaking architecture of Naoshima to the centuries-old hot spring culture of Arima Onsen. We've intentionally designed this itinerary to allow time for discovery, conversation, and personal exploration. The result is a journey that is immersive rather than hurried, offering opportunities to not only to see Japan’s remarkable history, but also to experience its exceptional hospitality, enduring commitment to craftsmanship, and timeless appreciation for beauty and thoughtful design.
